When my Colleagues offer me cake

Last month was the month of promotion & birthdays. Everyone was so happy & those who got promoted wanted to give us a treat or we can call it an office custom to give treats on any happy occasion. The most common food here is birthday cake.

So, as I was saying, he forced us to eat sweets & it’s a thing which is very hard to avoid. Because if I don’t eat his cake or sweets I might give away a message that I am not happy with progress, even though I am genuinely happy for him but I just don’t want the birthday cake.

Now this situation might seem very easy & normal but you gotta trust me, this is a dire situation because, first of all, I don’t like sweets that much. Secondly, one piece of cake will take me back 1 week from my fitness journey.

If you are wondering what is the harm of one slice of a cake, then see the following reasons how a single piece birthday cake can deviate you from your fitness journey;

Overloading on calories: One slice of cake can have a lot of calories, which could throw off your daily calorie intake and make it harder to lose weight.

Blood Sugar Spike: Cake has a lot of sugar, which can cause your blood sugar to rise quickly. After the rise, your blood sugar will drop, making you tired and wanting more sugary foods.

Empty Calories: Cake doesn’t have much nutritional value—it’s mostly made up of empty calories that don’t contain any vitamins, minerals, or fiber.

Increased Cravings: Eating sugary foods like cake can make you want more sweets, which can make it hard to avoid eating unhealthy foods later in the day.

Guilt and Regret: If you give in to desire and eat that birthday cake, you might feel guilty and regretful afterwards, which can make you less likely to eat healthy foods in the future.

Now you can see, it’s not a petty issue & you need to handle it with care & master the art of graceful denial.

I know it’s tough when a guy is offering you cake standing in front of your desk but remember losing weight is tougher. And it’s not just cake, it shows your commitment to yourself.

Now I’ll show you how to technically handle this situation;

Politely Decline: Politely say no to the birthday cake offer, thanking your coworker for the offer but saying that you’re trying to eat better.

Offer an Alternative: If the snack doesn’t fit with your diet, offer something else like fruit, nuts, or yogurt instead. This will show that you value the gesture but would rather have something healthier.

Stay Firm: Stick to your choice not to eat the birthday cake, even if other people try to get you to give in. Do not forget your goals and keep the promise you made to yourself.

Pay attention to social interactions: Pay attention to the people you’re with at the event instead of the food. Talk and get to know your coworkers without feeling like you have to eat the treats.

Bring Your Own Snack: As long as you bring your own healthy snack to the event, you can still enjoy the party while eating something healthy.

Let your colleagues know: that you are not a sweet or junk food guy. Even if it means you have to be slightly outcast. Don’t fear this, because a few months later those colleagues will come to you for health tips & they’ll be astonished by your commitment.

There are some other sweet foods that your colleague might not know. So let them know that instead of cake or doughnuts we all can just have different food while maintaining our diet

Here is five suggestion;

Fruit Platter: Offer to bring a fruit platter to the party so that everyone can enjoy a colorful and healthy option to cake.

Greek Yogurt Parfaits: For a healthy and filling sweet treat, bake small bowls of Greek yogurt and top them with fresh berries and honey.

Dark Chocolate: Choose a small piece of dark chocolate with a lot of cocoa. It has vitamins and may help you satisfy your sweet tooth with less sugar.

Making Your Own Energy Balls: To make a healthy and tasty snack, mix oats, nuts, dried fruit, and a little honey together to make your own energy balls.

Frozen Yogurt Pops: To make frozen yogurt Popsicle, mix Greek yogurt with fruit and a splash of honey. Freeze the mixture in molds for a healthy and refreshing dessert option.

So, be the outcast, be the cultural catalyst because our food habits need to be changed & only a catalyst can do this. Otherwise we’ll never be able to go beyond the curve.
