Foods to Avoid for Desk Tiredness

 

I have been working at a desk for a long time now, yet the tiredness never really goes away. This is the most consistent feeling all desk job holders experience and tiredness after eating is like a life partner.

 

Let’s talk about what desk tiredness is; it happens to everyone and it happens multiple times in a single day.

 

Why it happens in the Morning:

 

  1. Lack of a Nutritious meal: Eating a high-sugar meal or skipping breakfast can cause a sudden drop in energy.
  1. Inadequate Sleep Quality: You may wake up feeling exhausted and drowsy due to inadequate or poor quality sleep.
  1. Dehydration: Fatigue and sluggishness can result from consuming insufficient amounts of water in the morning.

Why tiredness after eating happens:

 

  1. Heavy, Carbohydrate-Rich Meals: Consuming a large meal high in refined carbohydrates may cause blood sugar levels to rise and then fall, which could result in afternoon fatigue.
  1. Lack of physical movement: Prolonged periods of inactivity without physical activity can exacerbate post-lunch fatigue.
  1. Digestive Energy Drain: Digesting large meals requires a lot of energy, which can lead to drowsiness and reduced attentiveness.

 

Now we know why it happens to us multiple times a day and there is nothing we can do to stop it from happening.

 

In my experience, what I believe is that tiredness while working at a desk can’t be stopped, but we can fight it when it comes.

 

While there are a lot of things we can do to combat it, I believe there are two things we should look into:

 

Number #1: Avoid Certain Foods

 

  1. Sugary Snacks and Beverages: These can spike blood sugar quickly, which is followed by a sudden decline that leaves you feeling exhausted.
  1. High-Carb, Low-Fiber Foods: Items such as pasta, white bread, and pastries can cause an energy rise followed by a collapse.
  1. Fried and Fatty Foods: These digest more slowly and leave you feeling lethargic.
  1. Caffeinated Drinks: Although a high caffeine intake can give you a fast energy boost, it can also cause dehydration and energy dips later in the day.
  1. Processed Foods: Consuming foods heavy in artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives can throw off your body’s natural energy balance and cause fatigue.

 

Now you know which foods are causing you tiredness at your desk.

 

Avoid them for your own good and switch them with healthier options like:

 

  1. Fruits and Vegetables: They are a good source of fiber, vitamins, and minerals that keep energy levels stable.
  1. Nuts and Seeds: Rich in protein and good fats, these can help you stay energized.
  1. Whole Grains: Oatmeal, brown rice, and whole wheat bread are examples of foods that deliver you long-lasting energy without causing a tiredness after eating.
  1. Lean Proteins: Fish, poultry, beans, and lentils can all help you feel full and invigorated while also preserving muscle mass.
  1. Water and Herbal Teas: Throughout the day, sustaining your energy levels depends on being hydrated.

 

Number #2: Simple Movement Around the Office

 

  1. Short Walks: Getting outside for a short while or taking a little stroll around the workplace helps improve circulation and lessen fatigue.
  1. Stretching Exercises: You can enhance blood flow and reduce stiffness by performing some light stretching at your workstation.
  1. Desk exercises: You may maintain your muscles engaged and your energy levels up by performing simple workouts like desk push-ups, shoulder shrugs, and sitting leg lifts.

 

You may easily overcome tiredness after eating and maintain more alertness and productivity throughout the day by avoiding specific meals and adding simple movements.

 

Maintaining good health and eating a balanced diet should always come first. Having the appropriate tactics in place and applying them can have a big impact on your daily energy levels and general well being.
