Why I fast 2 Days in a week during office
For the past 6 years I have been fasting 2 days in a week; Monday & Thursday. Fasting during office hours helps me focus & improves health.
I started this as a religious practice since I am Muslim & fasting is very much valued in our religion.
But what made me keep going for 6 years? Why am I so in love with fasting?
What am I getting to restrain myself from foods? Are there some other benefits?
I will answer every questions today.
How I started Fasting during office hours:
6 years ago I followed my mother & started fasting once in a while. I noticed that, whenever I fasted I felt very light about my physique. I started feel more focused & there was no tiredness or fatigue in office hours.
After this good experience I started fasting during office hours 2 times in a week & from then I couldn’t stop it.
Why I love this so much:
This fasting during office hours gives me many benefits but it has 2 major advantages;
- I feel good spiritually: As I mentioned I am a Muslim & fasting is very valued in our religion. So whenever I fast, I get a feeling of self actualization & it feels I am getting purified spiritually
- Health benefits: Along with spiritual benefits I also discovered some health benefits. My tummy stays in control & my body reacts to foods differently when I fast.
I know fasting 2 times a hard promise, but the outcome is very rewarding, if you want to start this practice follow these 3 steps:
- Start slow: You can’t just start fasting from tomorrow. Even if you did I know you won’t be able to continue this in the long run because your brain & body are not acquainted with this change. So start slow, fast 1 day in week for 2 months & then start fasting during office hours, 2 days in a week
- Don’t over do it: It’s very logical that all days are not the same. Some day you’ll have to travel or your body might not seem ok. I’d recommend you to stop fasting if you encounter something like this.
- Careful what you eat: This is the most important part where we have to keep in mind that after fasting we need to keep our body safe. So when we break the fast we need to eat only healthy foods so we can keep our energy for the next day.
Now it’s totally up to you whether to fast or not. Whatever you do I suggest you see the bigger picture & long term benefits of fasting not short term pain.
One very important aspect is what you eat after the fasting.
Again diet is always important
If you are a desk job holder and want to fast like me, I suggest you do some before night preparation & keep you diet in check after fast
Before night preparation:
- Prepare healthy meals: To make sure you have healthy foods on hand after fasting, plan and prepare balanced meals ahead of time.
- To stay hydrated: To recover and replace fluids you’ve lost, drink a lot of water and drinks with electrolytes.
- Protein and carbs should be included: You should eat protein-rich foods, like lean meats, fish, eggs, and legumes along with fiber-rich foods, like fruits, veggies, and whole grains, to help you feel full and keep your blood sugar levels steady.
- Do not eat processed foods: Cut down on processed and sugary foods that can make you feel tired and upset your stomach.
Diet after fasting:
- Break your fast with a well-balanced meal: Start with a mix of protein, carbs, and healthy fats to keep you full and stop you from eating too much.
- Eat things that are high in nutrients: Eat a lot of veggies, fruits, whole grains, and lean proteins to get back the nutrients you lost and improve your health as a whole.
- Stay away from big or greasy foods: If you want to avoid pain and help your stomach after fasting, choose lighter foods that are easy to digest.
- Stay hydrated: Drink water and herbal teas to refresh your body and get rid of the toxins that build up during your fast.
- Listen to your body: Notice how different things make you feel and change what you eat to improve your health.
Remember that fasting is a personal journey, and it’s important to put your health and well-being first during the whole thing.
You can get the transformative benefits of fasting while keeping your general health and vitality if you make smart choices and pay attention to what your body needs.
